Mas « Le Castandel » is situated in Saint Paul La Coste, in the South of France; a peaceful and spread out village of around 300 inhabitants. At a height of 420m, the village is found 16km from the town of Alès, where you can find all amenities. The village has a restaurant “Les Terrasses de Saint Paul”.
Saint Paul La Coste is situated in the Gard departement, and the Occitane region (Languedoc-Roussillon), at the feet of the Cevennes National Park (recognised as a world agro-pastoral heritage site bij UNESCO in 2011), with an enormous variety of natural treasures. The region benefits from a microclimate with lots of sunshine.
Do you want to escape from everyday life, de-stress and admire the beauty of the cevenole nature ? Then you will feel at home with us. Depending on the season there is something for all tastes across our 25 hectare : chat on the sunny terrace – enjoy the silence in a quiet corner – benefit from a healthy walk in the area – refresh yourself in the pool – go paddling in the river – relax in one of the hammocks – idle away some time under the magnificent chestnut tree – meditate on the rocks – collect some mushrooms or chestnuts – go for a walk in the snow – try out cross-country skiing or snow-shoeing (at Mas de la Barque) – find yourself again in the silence of nature.
In short; ideal for rest and relaxation.
For those looking for some activity, the village has direct access to the network of “Grand Routes” long-distance footpaths which cross the Cevennes park for hundreds of kilometres, including the route made famous by Stevenson in his “Travels with a donkey in the Cevennes” in 1879. We have plenty of maps and walk guides for the local area which we will be happy to share with you. If you fancy recreating history, you could even hire a donkey from nearby to accompany your walk …..
We can also point you in the direction of local spots which are good for river swimming, places to hire kayaks or try your hand at canyoning, treetop adventure parks, or caves to explore. For families there is a trip on a steam train through the beautiful Cevennes countryside, the Bambouserie to explore as well as a huge water park – all easily accessible for a day out.
